Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD)

  • What is MLD

Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a specialised massage technique designed to stimulate the lymphatic system, helping to promote circulation, improve immune function, and encourage the removal of toxins and waste.

The lymphatic system plays a crucial role in your body’s ability to fight infection and maintain overall health. However, stress, fatigue, illness, pollution, and processed foods can all contribute to lymphatic congestion—leading to puffiness, sluggishness, and reduced immunity.

MLD aims to stimulate fluid circulation, assisting the body’s natural detoxification processes. It encourages the lymphatic system to absorb and transport lymph more efficiently, helping the body function at its best.

It is not a muscular massage.

Unlike deep tissue or muscular massage, MLD is extremely gentle. Because the lymphatic vessels are located just beneath the skin’s surface, firm pressure isn't necessary. Your treatment will be tailored to your specific needs, and your therapist will walk you through what to expect during your consultation.

  • What Are the Effects of MLD

MLD can be used in many applications and has a profound effect on increasing lymphatic flow.

Here are a few situations that arise where lymph drainage can be beneficial:

Anyone prone to, or recovering from, an infection, illness, or a weakened immune system

    • Those experiencing ongoing fatigue
    • Those with excess fluid pooling in the body
    • Post-cancer patients (if lymph nodes have been removed)
    • Anyone with auto-immune conditions and/or chronic pain
    • Post-surgery
    • Recovering from sporting injuries
    • Sinusitis/Allergies
